Our Lady of Guadalupe coloring page: December 12th

December 1, 2012Coloring, December, Marian Coloring Standard

This famous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared on the tilma of a humble farmer in Mexico in 1531. The Virgin Mary appeared as a young girl to Juan Diego on a December morning. She spoke in his native language, asking that a chapel be built where she appeared on Tepeyac Hill. Juan Diego did as she asked and told Archbishop Zumárraga of her request. But the bishop was skeptical of the unusual request and ordered Juan Diego to ask the lady for a sign as proof. When Juan Diego returned to, Tepeyac Hill, the Virgin Mary asked him to gather some flowers. Despite the fact that it was December, Juan Diego found beautiful roses, on the empty hilltop. Juan Diego placed these flowers in his cloak and carried them to the archbishop. When he opened his cloak before Bishop Zumárraga, the flowers fell away. On his tilma was the now-miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Both Juan Diego’s and Our Lady of Guadalupe’s feast days are this month!
