Make your own Lego minifigure vestments!

June 27, 2014June, Lego Standard

I’ve seen my younger brother reconstruct a church out Legos more times than I can count on both hands (you can see his Lego high altar here!) so I thought it’s probably  time his minifigures had liturgical garb! 😉

You will need:

-green, yellow, black, and white electrical tape (you can find every imagineable color at Amazon.com)
-measuring tape
-scissors
-minifigures to model the new vestments 😉

Starting with the chasuble, cut a length of green tape about 2 ½” long.

Cut a second piece of green tape (same length) and, while stretching it as much as possible, place it over the first piece of electrical tape with the adhesive sides together.

This will cause the tape to curl up which will make the chasuble lay right on the minifigure.

Round the corners using scissors.  Fold the tape exactly in half and cut a small in the very center.  Push down firmly on the fold so that it makes a crease.

Cut a length of yellow electrical tape 1 1/2″ long.   Take that piece of tape and cut it into fifths, vertically. catholic legos

Place one of those narrow yellow strips down the center front and one down the center back off the long green piece.  Use the remaining yellow strips to make a “Y” shape on the chasuble and trim any excess tape.

Every priest can use a good altar boy! For a minifigure altar boy, we used the “mini legs” that Lego uses in their Hobbit sets so that the he would be shorter than the priest.  To make the cassock and surplus,  cut a length of black electrical tape 2 ½” long.

Just like the chasuble, we cut a second piece of tape (the same length) and, while stretching it taut, placed it on first piece of black tape with the sticky sides together.  Fold this in half, press the fold so that there is a crease, and cut a small hole in the exact center.

After that, cut a piece of white electrical tape, 1″ in length.    Cut a square in the exact center (a little less than a half inch in length).  On the shorter, outside edges of the tape, cut a curvy pattern.

Place the white tape of the black so that the  long edges match up but the white tape is center inside the black tape.  Remove the heads of the minifigures and slip the new liturgical garb over the post that holds the head in place.  Replace the heads so that the vestments are held in place.  We also used the black base of a Lego lever (in place of hair) to serve as the priest’s biretta. 😉 Your minifigures are now ready for Mass!
