Immaculate Heart of Mary coloring page

June 28, 2014Coloring, June, Marian Coloring Standard

Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary developed, in part, from references to Mary’s heart in the Gospels. Luke tells us “Mary treasured all these things and reflected on them in her heart,” and later, “His mother meanwhile kept all these things in her heart.” The Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary honors the love, sorrows, joys, and other experiences Mary carried within her heart. Typically, the Immaculate Heart of Mary is portrayed with a wound and sword. Her heart is usually encircled with roses.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary reminds the faithful or her great love for God, as well as her completely pure and sinless state. The Blessed Mother herself referenced her Immaculate Heart at Fatima, telling the shepherd children that “to save poor sinners, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart.”

Pope Pius XII consecrated the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1942.
