First Communion cake

May 2, 2014May, Recipes Standard

Here is one idea for a First Communion cake that combines a chalice with a Mary grotto!

first communion cake

For the chalice, we baked our cake in a 9 x 13 pan, cooled it for 20 minutes, then turned it onto a foil-covered board. (For best results, we recommend freezing cake before cutting into shapes. The cake will cut more easily with less crumbling).

We then  cut out the template below…

…and placed it on our cake, slicing around it with a knife to create the chalice shape.

We colored the frosting yellow and decorated our chalice with various shaped candy decorations.

Hello-
Thank you for all of your wonderful pictures to color and for your website. It is such a help! I am trying to print the chalice template for a cake for a party this weekend and am having trouble. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help and God bless you. I appreciate all that you offer on your website and my family has truly benefited from it. May God bless you.
Yours in Christ, through our lady, Dawn
