Saint Monica coloring page: August 27th

August 27, 2013August, Coloring, Saints Coloring Standard

St. Monica gives the Church an incredible example of patience and perseverance. For years, she patiently bore the tempers and insults of both her pagan husband and mother-in-law and prayed fervently for their conversions to the Catholic faith. Eventually they both converted- her husband died only a year after his conversion. Monica also had three children; Perpetua and Navigius entered the religious life, but Augustine fell away from the Church. Though he was raised Catholic, he chose instead to pursue worldly pleasures. For 17 years, Monica prayed for her son, even begging prayers from priests.  One priest told her, “It is not possible that the son of so many tears should perish.” Though it seemed impossible that someone so sinful could be converted, Monica never once stopped praying for her son. A vision that Augustine would one day be with her gave Monica great hope. Finally, in the year 387, Monica’s prayers were answered. Augustine was baptized by St. Ambrose only months before Monica died.
