Saint Mary Mackillop Coloring Page: August 8th
St. Mary MacKillop is one of the Church’s newer saints, having been canonized quite recently in 2010. Not only was she canonized a saint of the Catholic Church, but she also became Australia’s first saint. Mary had two great passions in her life: the poor and the religious order she formed with the help of Fr. Julian Woods.
The order, known as the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart (also called the Josephite Sisters), is still in existence today. Mary and her sisters spent their time teaching and caring for poor children, and serving those in the community around them. Several times in her life, Mary met with opposition from people both in the Church and outside of it. At one point, this even led to her excommunication. However, she remained faithful to the work God called her to and always forgave those who wronged her. The order of excommunication was later revoked.
